Courageous 3-year-old boy saves great-grandma after she fell and her head popped open

After he risked “the really dark” to save his great-grandmother from a perilous fall, a brave Colorado youngster has been praised as a hero.

Last month, while staying overnight with his great-grandmother Sharon Lewis, 3-year-old Bridger Peabody fell and struck her head on a concrete stair.

“We went up to the backyard, dark backyard,” Lewis, aka “GG,” told 9 News Tuesday, March 11. “We did really good. Then we got up to the door where I was going to get the keys out. Well, I must have tripped over something just sticking up there.”

Newsmen heard Little Bridger recount the incident.

“She had her walker, and then she fell on our porch,” the boy said. “She bonked her head, and it popped open!”

Lewis was unable to stand up due to severe bleeding from her forehead. Since she had left her phone in the car, no one could hear her when she tried to call out to their neighbors. So she told Bridger that he had to discover it by himself, stumbling through their driveway’s darkness.

“I said, ‘You know what? You’re going to have to go out to the car and get my phone,’” she told 9 News. “He said, ‘It’s too dark, GG.’ I said, ‘I know, but you’re going to have to be brave. Jesus will help you.”

Bridger was heard whispering, “Don’t be afraid,” in adorable home security footage taken during his trip to the automobile. “Don’t be afraid” he told himself as he carried a blanket and walked through the darkness to the car. He then opened the driver’s side door and was ecstatic to find it.

“Yay! I did it!” he called out to GG, bringing her phone back so she could call for help.

After being transported to a neighboring hospital, Lewis received a concussion diagnosis and 22 staples were placed in her head.

She claims that although she views Bridger as a hero, she is unsure if he is yet aware of what that term implies and that she is unsure of what she would have done without him.

“I call him a hero. He goes, ‘No. I’m Bridger.’ He’s not quite sure what a hero is, I think, but he definitely is,” she said.

“He’s just a blessing.”
