Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, has cautioned Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the state’s former governor, from meddling with or destabilizing the party.
At a press conference in Kaduna, Mustapha accused El-Rufai of using “subversive alliances” and “illegitimate political manoeuvres” to try to seize control of the party’s structure, despite the fact that El-Rufai does not have a ward-level party membership, which is a prerequisite for membership.
The former governor was warned by Mustapha that his actions would undermine the party’s unity and democratic values.
“Let it be clearly understood that the Kaduna State Chapter of the ADC will not be a willing tool in the hands of any individual, nor will we be beholden to interests that seek to undermine our collective vision.”
He asserted that El-Rufai has been covertly attempting to develop a faction within the ADC with the help of other political personalities and some of his erstwhile supporters from the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He claims that in order to prepare for upcoming elections, the party would be transformed into a personal political platform.
“This is not only unacceptable, but a direct threat to the unity, discipline, and democratic values that define the ADC.”
He stated that although the party accepts anyone who really adheres to its ideals, ADC would not permit any behavior that mirrored what he defined as:
“The destructive tendencies of the old parties that have stalled Nigeria’s progress.”
He stated that the Kaduna ADC is still dedicated to giving Nigerians a better, more people-centered alternative to the current APC and promised the party’s complete support for Senator David Mark, the party’s new national chairman.
