The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has condemned the reported attack on party supporters in Enugu State, expressing concern over the growing political tension.
In a video posted on X, Obi warned that the consequences of anarchy would affect everyone, urging those involved in political violence to put an end to such actions.
The former Anambra State governor also disclosed that some of his scheduled visits to different states had been called off after his hosts allegedly received threats.
Reporters had earlier reported that violence broke out at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on Saturday after suspected thugs attacked NDC supporters.
The supporters had gathered at the airport to receive the party’s governorship candidate, Chinyeaka Ohaa, when the incident occurred.
The latest development comes less than a month after the NDC accused “state-sponsored thugs” of attacking its members during a grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Reacting to the incident, Obi said, “The unfortunate incident that happened today in Enugu State, where NDC supporters were attacked by political thugs, has reportedly claimed one life.
“Those in government should know that when anarchy comes, it consumes everybody.”
