The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disclosed that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will recommend nominees for important positions in the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).
The positions to be filled include Director-General, Deputy Director-General, campaign spokesperson, Director of Social Media and Financial Controller.
The party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, announced this during a press briefing at the NDC national secretariat in Abuja on Saturday. He explained that the council’s organisational framework and campaign timetable had been completed since late August.
According to Zuwoghe, the inauguration of the council would take place after the presidential candidate’s vetting process had been concluded and nominations for the principal campaign positions had been finalised.
Addressing journalists on the outcome of the National Working Committee’s meeting, the chairman disclosed that October 20, 2026, had been fixed for the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, the distribution of Certificates of Return to candidates for the 2027 elections, and a strategic dinner involving candidates seeking various elective offices across the country.
He added that a National Executive Committee meeting would also hold on October 20, ahead of the scheduled activities, to consider and formally approve important decisions concerning the party’s preparations for the elections.
Obi and Kwankwaso are also expected to nominate two other officials who will work with the party’s national treasurer to supervise the campaign council’s separate and dedicated financial account.
Zuwoghe said the arrangement was designed to ensure that the presidential candidates participated in decisions that would shape the campaign’s structure, financial management and strategic direction.
He maintained that the party leadership, its presidential candidate and running mate, as well as National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, were in agreement on the process and the broader preparations for the 2027 elections.
The chairman stated that the NDC would unveil the membership of the campaign council after receiving the candidates’ proposed nominees and recommendations.
He argued that constituting the council without the direct involvement of Obi and Kwankwaso would be inappropriate, given their central positions in the presidential contest.
According to him, “The candidates must also provide direction on campaign funding arrangements to ensure that the council operates within an agreed framework.”
The party explained that the arrangement was intended to minimise potential disputes over appointments and duties while ensuring that the final campaign structure could effectively coordinate activities across the country.
