Cole Palmer of Chelsea FC has shared his views regarding head coach Liam Rosenior amid the club’s recent struggles.
The England international has defended Rosenior as the Blues head into their final six fixtures in the Premier League.
Rosenior took over as Chelsea’s head coach in January this year, following the dismissal of former manager Enzo Maresca.
Since his arrival, the team has struggled to regain consistency, having been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16 after an 8-2 aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
The club is also facing difficulties in securing qualification for next season’s Champions League, currently sitting sixth on the table with 48 points from 32 matches.
In an interview with The Guardian, Palmer discussed Rosenior’s situation at the club.
He noted that a full pre-season, along with a detailed evaluation of the squad, could help the coach bring about significant improvements at Stamford Bridge.
He remarked, “Hiring a manager mid-season means there is no pre-season, and there is barely any time for training. The focus is solely on the matches.
“However, the manager is competent, and once he has a proper pre-season to convey his ideas effectively and implement his desired style of play, he is an exceptional coach.
“If we, as players, perform to our potential and acquire the right players, both he and we as a collective can achieve significant progress.”
Following Chelsea’s dip in form, Palmer has also come under criticism for failing to maintain his usual performance levels.
The England international has additionally struggled with injuries, recording 10 goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea will now turn their attention to the upcoming FA Cup semi-final scheduled for April 26, while also aiming to secure a top-five finish in the league.
