Regarding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s invitation to Rivers lawmakers headed by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, former Rivers State House of Assembly member Samuel Ogeh and former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Ibim Semenitari have taken different positions.

After the Supreme Court’s decision to recognize Amaewhule and other lawmakers as valid members of the Rivers House of Assembly, Fubara had called the lawmakers to a meeting. He was also asked to show them the budget until 2025.

Semenitari disputes Ogeh’s view that the invitation was disrespectful since the governor did not sign the letter directly, arguing that it offers a path to enduring peace in the South-South state that is currently experiencing a crisis.

“If there is good intention there is nothing wrong, but people must learn how to accept their mistakes. I am not speaking for the Speaker, but what I am saying is from my point of view, that letter is not intended to achieve any good result because it smacks of disrespect to the House,” Ogeh said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Semenitari while also speaking on the programme said, “I would like to believe that (it will bring a lasting peace) because ultimately this is about Rivers interest and all of the gladiators are Rivers men and women. I would want to hate that there would be one Rivers citizen who won’t want peace at last. So, I would like to hope that it will be peace at last”.

Fubara called Amaewhule, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and other lawmakers to a meeting in a letter signed by Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, and acquired by Channels Television on Sunday.

On Monday, the meeting is planned to take place at the Governor’s Office in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Fubara was given 48 hours by the lawmakers last week to submit the 2025 budget for their review.

Their invitation to the governor followed a Supreme Court judgement that ordered Amaewhule and other lawmakers elected for the Rivers State Assembly to begin sitting.
