A Wisconsin judge was detained by the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) for allegedly concealing an illegal immigrant in her jury room in order to prevent ICE from arresting the person.
Judge Hannah Dugan of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court was arrested and accused with obstructing an official proceeding on Friday, according to Fox News.
According to the article, which cited federal law enforcement officials, the development follows proof that she protected the migrant from ICE agents.
After the undocumented man’s planned appearance in criminal court on April 18, federal agents from ICE, FBI, CBP, and DEA reportedly tried to arrest him.
Federal law enforcement officials assert in the report that Judge Dugan purposefully diverted agents and police to the chief judge’s office in order to allow the undocumented immigrant to depart the courtroom and avoid arrest.
It seems probable that Judge Dugan will make her first appearance in federal court in Milwaukee on Friday.
Earlier this week, Dugan had denied local accusations that she had protected the illegal immigrant from ICE.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which published an article on Tuesday, Dugan addressed the charges by writing: “Nearly every fact regarding the ‘tips’ in your email is inaccurate.”
