Fresh Crack Hits APC as Lawmakers Make Surprise Move

Three members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday announced their departure from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the National Assembly resumed plenary following the Sallah recess.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, the lawmaker representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Rabilu Bala, officially resigned from the APC and defected to the PRP.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who read Bala’s letter before the chamber, said the legislator linked his exit to lingering internal crises within the APC and his desire to align with a platform he believes would better serve the interests of his constituents.

Similarly, Abubakar Zango, representing Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, also declared his resignation from the APC and subsequent defection to the ADC.

In his letter, Zango explained that his decision was based on his conscience and what he described as the wider national interest, while promising to continue carrying out his legislative duties with diligence and in line with democratic principles.

Also, the member representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, announced his defection from the APC to the ADC.
