A Chief Magistrate Court in Ekiti State has ordered the remand of Ogunjobi Gbenga Francis, 50, in prison over alleged threats to kill the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina.

The defendant is accused of damaging the gate key and chain valued at N250,000 and erecting a structure on the professor’s land without lawful authority. The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, said the offences are punishable under the Criminal Law of Ekiti State and the Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing) Law 2019.

The defendant’s counsel, Barrister E. O. Adedeji, applied for bail, assuring the court that his client would not jump bail. However, the prosecutor objected, citing threats to life and the defendant’s alleged resale of the land to another person.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, refused to grant bail and ordered the defendant’s remand until May 30 for a ruling on his bail application
