Ikota community in Lekki, Lagos, was abuzz with activity as Glo Foundation and Lagos Foodbank Initiative distributed food packages to thousands of vulnerable individuals, including elderly women, nursing mothers, and widows. This charity initiative aims to alleviate the hardship caused by rising food costs.

According to Mrs. Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Head of CSR at Globacom, “This is our modest way of helping vulnerable communities weather the storm. We’re targeting underserved communities in slum areas, aiming to make a difference in their households and lives.”

Mr. Ufuoma Dogun, Senior Manager of Glo Foundation, emphasised that their mandate aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on ending poverty and zero hunger. “We partnered with Lagos Food Bank due to their excellence in this area. Our goal is to reach as many vulnerable groups as possible,” he explained.

Dogun highlighted their plans to expand this initiative beyond Lagos, targeting cities like Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kaduna. “We’re committed to providing sustainable income means for vulnerable groups. We’re discussing backward integration with Lagos Foodbank, aiming to assist individuals in owning farms and promoting empowerment through education and healthcare.”

The Executive Director of Lagos Foodbank Initiative, Mr. Michael Sunbola, praised the partnership with Globacom, stating, “Our collaboration has made a significant impact in identified communities. We’ve combined four communities in Ikota, Lekki, and the impact will be felt by these families.”
