The Ilimi Children’s Fund (ICF), in partnership with WRTHY, has empowered 50 adolescent girls in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and financial literacy. The training, part of ICF’s “Teach Her to Reach Her” initiative, aims to equip girls with the skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their lives.

According to Program Coordinator Ms. Tovia Muo, “We organised the training to address common misconceptions about reproductive health and to help the girls understand their rights, menstrual cycles, consent, and where to find support.” The girls also received practical lessons on saving, goal-setting, and money management, fostering early financial independence.

Muo emphasised the importance of investing in girls, saying, “When we invest in girls, we multiply impact. We build stronger families, healthier communities, and a brighter future for all.” She called on development partners, government institutions, media, and donors to help expand the initiative, noting that many adolescent girls still lack access to accurate information, mentorship, and safe learning spaces.

Facilitators praised the initiative, with Esesua Adeyemi, founder of JustAskSaisy Enterprise, declaring, “We are raising girls who will not just ask for a seat at the table. They will build theirs. Every girl we reach now knows that her voice, her choices, and her future matter.”

Dr. Kelechi Anyikude of WRTHY expressed optimism about the girls’ future, saying, “I am deeply passionate about empowering young girls and helping them realise their full potential. Education and mentorship play a crucial role in shaping brighter futures.”

ICF commended its partners, including WRTHY, United Nations Population Fund, EDC Alumni Network, and FCT Secondary Education Board, for their contributions to the training.
