ISLAM: Sheikh Gumi sends strong message to Venezuela after America captured her President

Controversial Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has reacted to the detention of Venezuela’s President by the United States.

It should be noted that President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that US troops had detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following what he termed as a “large-scale strike” on the South American country.

The unexpected pronouncement comes after months of increased US military and economic pressure on Venezuela’s Marxist government and its oil-dependent economy.

In a Facebook post on January 3, 2026, he stated that Venezuelans should embrace Islam because it would provide them with the moral fortitude to abandon drugs and the courage to resist imperial tyranny. He went on to say that Islam is still the only force that can stand in for today’s injustice and deceit.

He wrote, “Venezuelans should adopt Islam. That will give them the moral rectitude to leave drugs, and the courage to repel the Devil and imperial subjugation. Islam remains the only force that is a substitute for the current world’s injustice and hypocrisy.”
