Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has stated his intention to “clean out” Gaza and relocate Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt.
In addition to saying that Palestinians should leave the Gaza Strip in order to “clean out” the enclave, Trump said on Saturday that he had requested King Abdullah II of Jordan to accept additional Palestinians.
His remarks were made as the Israeli government accused Hamas of violating a ceasefire agreement and refused to open crossing crossings, leaving hundreds of Palestinians waiting to return to their homes in northern Gaza.
“I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing at a different location where they can maybe live in peace for a change,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday.
“You are talking about probably a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing and say, ‘You know, it’s over,’” the president added.
Trump said he had told King Abdullah, “I’d love you to take on more,” Palestinians during a previous discussion. He also said he will bring up the issue with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi on Sunday.
According to report, a terror strike on Israel by the Palestinian militant organization Hamas on October 7, 2023, sparked the start of the conflict in Gaza.
The raid claimed the lives of almost 1,200 people, while another 251 were captured.
Israel consequently launched an air and ground invasion of Gaza, killing more than 47,000 people.
