In a major boost to agricultural development and rural empowerment in Ebonyi State, Izhi Integrated Farms Limited has distributed ₦100,000 each to 120 of its registered members to support farming activities during the 2026 planting season.

The empowerment programme, which brought together farmers, government representatives, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries, was described as a strategic intervention aimed at enhancing food production and improving the livelihoods of local farmers.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Michael Udenwe, urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds, stressing that the success of the initiative would depend largely on how effectively the farmers invest the support in their agricultural activities.

According to him, the empowerment package should serve as a catalyst for increased productivity and sustainable agricultural growth within the Izhi community.

The Grand Patron of the association, Chief Senator Chris Nwankwo, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the commitment of the Ebonyi State Government towards agricultural transformation. He noted that Governor Francis Nwifuru has continued to prioritise the agricultural sector as a key driver of economic growth and food security in the state.

Senator Chris Nwankwo recalled that the state government recently sponsored about 200 Ebonyi indigenes to Nasarawa State to acquire practical knowledge and skills in different aspects of dry-season farming.

He encouraged the beneficiaries of the Izhi Integrated Farms empowerment programme to ensure that the resources placed at their disposal are judiciously utilised.

“Everything given to the farmers should be properly used for the intended purpose. This empowerment is an opportunity to improve agricultural output and strengthen food security in our communities,” he advised.

The event also featured goodwill messages from traditional rulers, representatives of the Federal and State Ministries of Agriculture, and other stakeholders, all of whom commended the initiative and called for sustained investments in the agricultural sector.

In a vote of appreciation delivered on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Nwifuru Obinna expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of Izhi Integrated Farms Limited for the timely intervention. He assured that the farmers would make the most of the funds to achieve a productive farming season.

Similarly, Rev. Dr. Nwibo, while giving the vote of thanks, appreciated all guests and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme. He expressed optimism that subsequent editions of the empowerment initiative would witness greater participation and increased financial support for members.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Izhi Integrated Farms Limited, Hon. Julius Ifeanyi Nwibo described the initiative as part of the organisation’s broader vision to promote food security, foster community development, and enhance the economic well-being of its members.

He noted that the management of the company remains committed to empowering registered farmers with the tools and resources necessary to succeed.

The board chairman also commended His Excellency, Governor Francis Nwifuru for creating an enabling environment for agricultural investments and for placing agriculture high on the agenda of his administration.

According to him, the empowerment programme was designed not merely as a one-off intervention but as a sustainable approach to improving productivity among farmers.

With the distribution of ₦12 million to 120 farmers, Izhi Integrated Farms Limited has further demonstrated its commitment to grassroots development and agricultural advancement, reinforcing the vital role of farmers in ensuring food sufficiency and economic prosperity in Ebonyi State.

As beneficiaries prepare for the planting season, stakeholders expressed confidence that the initiative would translate into increased yields, improved incomes, and a stronger agricultural sector capable of contributing significantly to the state’s economy.

The event concluded with renewed calls for collaboration among farmers, government institutions, and private organisations to build a more resilient and prosperous agricultural future for Ebonyi State.
