Concerning their unpaid salaries, the Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have threatened to go on an indefinite strike.

This is stated in a statement that was signed on Wednesday by Prince Peters Adeyemi, the general secretary of NASU, and Mohammed Ibrahim, the president of SSANU.

The Federal Government was given a three-week ultimatum by the unions to pay their unpaid salaries.

They claim that on July 26, 2024, the 10-day grace period granted to the Federal Government to pay the four months of unpaid salaries to university employees expired.

The unions threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government did not respond to their requests over the next three weeks, starting on Tuesday, September 17.

In the event that payment was not received during the extended grace period, they threatened to close universities and inter-university facilities.

The 2009 agreement with the federal government to be implemented, enhanced compensation, earned allowances, and the payment of four months’ salaries withheld from members are among the demands made by SSANU and NASU.

The Federal Government was given a six-week ultimatum in July of this year, and the unions claimed that it had not moved within that time.
