Kwankwasiyya youths gives condition for political alignment with Governor Abba Yusuf

Several youth groups in Kano State that are connected to Kwankwasiyya have announced their willingness to politically align with Governor Abba Yusuf, contingent upon the administration’s response to their claims of marginalization and exclusion from governance.

Youth participants at an engagement forum in Kano, organized during ongoing political realignments in the state, expressed their stance on Saturday. They clarified that they did not oppose Governor Yusuf personally but were unhappy with what they described as a lack of inclusion of young people in government programs and decision-making processes.

Aminu Abdullahi, widely recognized as Alhaji Warkal, spoke on behalf of the groups and elaborated that numerous young individuals who were instrumental to the success of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections felt neglected after the victory.

According to him, “Thousands of young people sacrificed their time, energy and resources to ensure the success of the movement and the party. Unfortunately, after the election, they were left out of consultations, appointments and empowerment opportunities.”

He added that the perceived exclusion had heightened supporters’ frustration and emphasized that ignoring youth participation could lead to broader social consequences.

Abdullahi stated that it is unrealistic to expect loyalty from young people if they are not included, emphasizing that true involvement of youth is essential for curbing crime, restiveness, and social tension.

He rejected suggestions that political figures were pressuring or influencing the youth to choose sides, emphasizing that their position was motivated solely by interests and expectations.

He clarified that politics revolves around interest, pointing out that if the government pays attention to the youths, empowers them, and fosters their sense of belonging, they will inherently back the administration.

He revealed that discussions among different youth groups indicated a readiness to collaborate with the governor if their issues were acknowledged.

He stated that representatives from at least 32 youth groups took part in the event, which saw approximately 400 youths present and where empowerment support worth N20 million was allocated.
