In light of the Federal Government’s initiation of repair work that will result in a partial closure of the Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Lagos State Government has revealed alternative traffic routes.

A statement issued late Tuesday by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, disclosed the development.

The statement indicates that the Federal Ministry of Works previously declared that repair work on the bridge’s expansion joints would commence on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is anticipated to take two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026.

According to the government, the repair work will result in a partial closure of the Kara Bridge heading toward Opic/Mowe. Motorists are advised to use designated alternative routes during this time to facilitate traffic flow.

The first route option advises motorists coming from the Third Mainland Bridge to connect through Ketu to Mile 12, proceed to Ogolonto and Ikorodu Garage, then link Sabo Roundabout to access Isagamu Road or Itokin Road for their journeys.

As for the second option, drivers coming from Lagos Island should connect Ilubinrin to Ijora Bridge, get onto Eko Bridge via Funsho Williams Avenue, and head to Ikorodu Road via Ojota to Ketu and Mile 12.

From that point, they can link Ogolonto with Ikorodu Garage and continue via Sabo Roundabout to Isagamu Road or Itokin Road to reach their destinations.

As an alternative, drivers can reach Ikorodu Garage via Sabo Roundabout, connect Ogijo to Likosi, and go through Shimawa to Lotto before accessing Mowe and other locations.

The ministry announced that officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be stationed within the rehabilitation corridor and along the specified alternative routes to guarantee a smooth traffic flow.

Traffic management signs will be placed in key locations to direct drivers during the repair period.

The Lagos State Government called on drivers to pre-plan their journeys to prevent holdups and asked for road users’ patience and cooperation during the entire time of the repair work.
