Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has reacted to recent remarks made by Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal concerning the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Yamal had declared that he should be regarded as the leading contender for this year’s prestigious individual award.

The Spain international was named among the 30 players shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or and expressed confidence that he deserves to take home the prize.

“Kylian Mbappe and I, we are the two best players in the world, but I think I’m the one who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.”

Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s LaLiga meeting with Elche on Tuesday, Mourinho was asked to respond to Yamal’s comments.

The Portuguese manager, however, maintained a professional tone while addressing the Barcelona star’s claim.

“I don’t comment on a player’s statements. I respect everyone’s opinions, but I don’t comment,” Mourinho said.
