The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reported a revenue recovery of ₦25,777,379,328.17 between March and May 2025, according to Comptroller Joseph Adelaja.

This amount marks a 36.67% rise when compared to the ₦18,168,204,255.04 generated within the same period in 2024.

Speaking during a media briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan, Comptroller Adelaja credited the revenue boost to the dedication of officers, stricter enforcement of customs laws, and the adoption of enhanced trade facilitation strategies.

He stated, “Our implementation of modern trade facilitation tools has enhanced compliance among excise stakeholders, significantly reducing revenue leakages.”

Beyond revenue collection, the Comptroller emphasized that the command has stepped up its anti-smuggling operations ahead of the upcoming festive season. These efforts are aimed at safeguarding the public, shielding local manufacturers, and ensuring adherence to customs regulations.

Adelaja revealed that in May 2025 alone, the command confiscated contraband valued at ₦335,648,500.00 in Duty Paid Value.

Among the items intercepted were foreign parboiled rice, petrol products, used apparel, and fake pharmaceutical products.

“These activities endanger public health, harm local industries, and deprive the government of essential revenue needed for infrastructure development,” he said.

He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to enforcing the law and protecting national interests, stating that all confiscations were carried out in line with Section 245 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, which provides the legal framework for the seizure and legal processing of banned goods.
