The Nigeria National League (NNL) has announced a new date for the opening match of the 2026-27 season, ZINGTIE reports.
The encounter between Heartland and Crown FC, originally fixed for Saturday, October 31, at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, has been moved to Sunday, November 1. The venue remains unchanged, while kick-off is scheduled for 4 pm.
All other opening-day matches will take place a week after the rescheduled fixture.
NNL Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, explained that the decision followed the scheduling of significant state events on the initial date.
According to Alanana, the league wants the host state to have adequate representation at the opening match, ensuring a good turnout and an atmosphere suitable for the occasion.
He apologised to the two clubs and their supporters over the adjustment, appealing for their understanding and emphasising that the change was made to support a successful commencement of the new season.
