Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has announced that Chief James Ibori, the state’s previous governor, will join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oborevwori, who recently joined the party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, said this at a vigil mass honoring Prof. Amos Utuama, the state’s former deputy governor.
According to ZINGTIE, the liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Otu-Jeremi, which is located in the state’s Ughelli South Local Government Area.
The governor emphasized the selfless achievements of the former deputy governor who was transited while emphasizing the necessity of unity among the Urhobo political elite.
“I am very happy to be here today, seeing this large gathering for one man. The preaching today is not about the dead, it is about the living.
“There are many things our former deputy governor did while he was alive. I will mention just a few key ones.
“He donated the land allocated to him in Asaba while he was deputy governor to the Catholic Church.
“He also contributed to building of the church. To me, that is a kingdom investment,” he said.
Oborevwori prayed that the passing of the deceased would bring peace and togetherness to Ughelli South and the entire Urhobo ethnic group.
In his exhortation, the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Warri, Most Rev. Anthony Ewherido, stated that the late Prof. Amos Utuama had an outstanding life in both the church and the society.
Ewherido sent the family his condolences and urged them to continue their father’s values of selflessness, humility, compassion, and holiness.
The bishop reminded everyone that in order to enjoy eternity after physical death, one must accept Christ while still living. He also explained that a Christian’s death is a transition to eternal glory.
In order to maintain peace and advance the state, he also urged the political elite to remain united.
The deceased’s son, Mr. Ovie Utuama, spoke on behalf of the family, thanking everyone for their support and asking for prayers for them at this trying time.
