An Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court on Friday granted bail to three suspects arrested over allegations of assaulting and obstructing police officers in Ogun State.

The defendants, Alaba Mulika, 51, Alawode Iyanu, 21, and Temitope Saliu, 29, were arraigned following an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, into an incident reported on September 29, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Police Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, a team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel stopped an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye, before a Toyota Highlander with registration number JJJ 215 JV allegedly obstructed its movement at Abobi Street.

It was alleged that the situation escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi were assaulted.

The incident was reportedly triggered after the driver of the seized vehicle contacted Alaba Mulika, an alleged Indian herb seller from Awa-Ijebu, who allegedly arrived at the scene, attacked the officers and prevented the vehicle from being taken to the Ago-Iwoye Police Station.

“A physical confrontation allegedly followed, during which INSPR Abolarinwa Wasiu and CPL Olubamiro Adeniyi were allegedly assaulted. Video recordings of the incident, which subsequently circulated on social media, formed part of the materials reviewed during the investigation.”

Babaseyi disclosed that the defendants were facing five charges bordering on conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, serious assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Police Public Relations Officer said the court granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties required.

He added that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment and proof of ownership of a house within the court’s jurisdiction, subject to verification by the court registrar.

Babaseyi further disclosed that the case was adjourned until October 12, 2026, for further proceedings.

He also warned members of the public against engaging in physical confrontation with police officers carrying out lawful duties, advising them to pursue complaints through established legal channels.
