Ondo: Rasaq Obe opens up about paying Akeredolu’s wife, son to become Commissioner

Razaq Obe, the Ondo State commissioner for energy and mineral resources, has refuted claims that he paid bribes to get the position during the late former governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration.

Obe insisted that there had been no cash exchanges with the late Akeredolu’s family for him to be appointed.

During Akeredolu’s hospitalisation, the Energy Commissioner voiced concerns about the late governor’s signature forgery by certain cabinet members.

In an interview, Doyin Odebowale, the late Akeredolu’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategies, became enraged with Obe and demanded to know how much money was given to Akeredolu’s wife Betty and son Babajide in exchange for their appointment as Commissioner in the cabinet.

In the widely shared video, Odebowale claims that Obe had no political relevance before Betty and Babajide supported him for a cabinet position, and he was named the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources.

Obe stressed that such allegations were unfounded and intended to damage the late governor’s and his reputations.

He underlined that his work to guarantee Akeredolu’s victory in the 2020 governorship election in the Ilara-Mokin ward of the Ifedore local government area made his appointment possible.

Obe said that Odebowale was a member of the group that restrained the performance of the state budget during the acting governorship of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. However, he refuted claims that he had a disagreement with the late governor’s son, Babajide, regarding the availability of diesel in the state.

“I supported Akeredolu and gave him all assistance in 2020. I followed him through the campaigns so it is not true to say I was a nobody politically.

“There was no need to pay the First Lady or her son for me to be made Commissioner. It is unfortunate that Odebowale is making this vituperations days after the passing of Akeredolu.”

  • An impressive share! I've just forwarded this onto a colleague who has been doing
a little homework on this. And he actually ordered me breakfast simply because I discovered it for him...
lol. So allow me to reword this.... Thank YOU for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this topic here on your web page.

  • The man Mr Obe, I know will never give our money or any kind to gain a political position. Instead he worked for it.
So those looking for what or who to destroy should look elsewhere and not Mr. Obe. Thanks
