Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is on the verge of reaching a major milestone in his international career as Nigeria prepares to face Portugal in a friendly match at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria on Wednesday.
The experienced midfielder currently has 99 appearances for the Super Eagles and is expected to make his 100th outing in the encounter.
Should he feature against Portugal, Iwobi will become the latest member of Nigeria’s exclusive centurion club.
The elite group is made up of players who have recorded 100 or more appearances for the national team, including Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama.
The Fulham star has enjoyed a long and consistent career with the Super Eagles, representing the country at senior level for more than a decade.
Iwobi has spent 10 years and eight months in the national team setup since making his senior debut.
His first appearance for Nigeria came in a friendly match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015.
Before committing his international future to Nigeria, the midfielder represented England at various youth levels.
Since switching allegiance, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the most reliable players in the Super Eagles squad and now stands on the brink of another remarkable achievement.
