The Kwankwasiyya Movement has reacted to reports claiming that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, threatened to dump the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement issued by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, the group dismissed the reports, insisting that Kwankwaso has never issued any threat to leave the party over the replacement of candidates.

The movement described the claims making the rounds as unfounded rumours with no basis in fact.

“Kwankwaso never threatened to leave the NDC. Neither the Kwankwasiyya Movement not its leader is complaining,” the statement said.

There had been reports suggesting that the Kwankwasiyya bloc was considering an exit from the party following the replacement of some candidates previously nominated by the group.

The speculation gained momentum after several candidates submitted by the bloc were reportedly substituted, with allegations emerging that the action violated an earlier power-sharing agreement within the party.

However, Mohammed rejected the allegations, maintaining that such claims were without merit.

He explained that the party’s primary elections were conducted on May 29 in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that successful candidates were duly confirmed on the same day.

According to him, party stakeholders and members had earlier agreed on adopting a consensus arrangement where necessary, after which candidates were selected and submitted without any internal disputes.

The spokesperson further stated that Kwankwaso has not communicated any dissatisfaction or complaint regarding the party to the movement.

He stressed that the reports of an impending crisis between Kwankwaso’s camp and the NDC leadership do not reflect the true position of the movement.
