PDP crisis: Speak directly – Wike’s aide replies Makinde over ‘gutter’ comment

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, responded to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s statement on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking following the Southwest zoning consultation session in Lagos, Makinde declared that he would not submit to the FCT Minister’s “gutter level.”

The governor stated that the PDP is still alive in response to the debate surrounding the zoning issue.

“I personally don’t go with them when people go low, or they go into the gutters,” Makinde stated in response to the Minister’s request that Dan Orbih, the chairman of the South-South zonal, not be dismissed.

The governor mentioned that at its meeting on Monday, the PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) will make decisions regarding the party’s zoning and other matters.

Olayinka, however, urged Makinde to have the courage to confront the Minister directly about the matter.

Posting on X, Olayinka posted: “The brave must never give his ears to the murmuring of the coward until he grows enough balls to be able to speak directly.”

Meanwhile, some PDP members who are thought to be Wike loyalists have rejected the results of the Southern Leaders zoning consultative summit.

At the 102nd National Executive Committee meeting next Monday, the Bayelsa governor, Douye Diri, will lead the zoning committee in proposing a zoning formula for the 19 National Working Committee slots between the North and the South, notwithstanding the tension.

During the meeting, NEC is also anticipated to express an opinion regarding the zoning recommendations made by the committee.
