In Lamba ward of Wase local government area in Plateau state, supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) set fire to party billboards and palliatives on Wednesday in protest of what they said were “meager Ramadan palliatives” given to their members.
The fans were observed trashing signs and billboards and burning them on the road as they took to the streets, shouting chants like “we don’t want” and “take the palliative to the chairman.”
Additionally, they set fire to the medication that the party had given them.
According to our correspondent, the demonstrators threatened to desert the party in the 2027 elections when the LGA chairman denied what was intended for the local party members.
The chairman sent nine bags of six measures of rice and nine bags of six measures of corn to an electoral ward that had thousands of party supporters, according to some of the members who gathered at the party office in the ward.
One party member, Haladu Mus, expressed his frustration by saying, “Look at the small amount of grains they brought to us as party members. Two measures of rice and one measure of maize for Ja’oji polling unit. The same thing was given to Runji polling unit for the Ramadan.”
Dayyabu Ibrahim, a different party member, bemoaned the palliative care being nothing to brag about and that the local party officials would undoubtedly foot the bill, adding that “by God’s grace, they will see in the next election.“
Every attempt to reach Hamisu Amani, the chairman of Wase, was futile because many calls to him were not answered, and as of the time of writing, he had not responded to an SMS.
