Muktar Yarima, a lawmaker for Kano State’s Tarauni Federal Constituency, is receiving criticism from his constituents for giving out millet and sorghum as Ramadan remedies.

Locals expressed their annoyance on social media by ridiculing the congressman and sharing pictures of the grains, claiming they are not sorghum-feeding livestock.

Commentator Abba Wrecca demonstrated in a little video how security personnel flogged recipients in order to make them wait in line in the sun.

“These are the sorghum and millet that the member representing Tarauni, an in-law to Rabiu Kwankwaso, is distributing to his constituents. He is now a celebrity, with people taking selfies with him, while some beneficiaries relax under air conditioning at the distribution site,” Wrecca wrote in a Facebook post.

Residents mocked the palliatives in another video, pointing out that Tarauni’s delegate distributed millet and sorghum while lawmakers elsewhere gave motorcycles, land plots, and other valuables.

“I swear to God, my mother will not eat this during Ramadan,” one constituent declared.

Another commentator, Umar Mai Rice, said the congressman picked sorghum since he ate it growing up.

“Oh my God, we are not horses. Even horses have stopped eating sorghum,” Dayyib Usman wrote.

Zakareeyah Xavi, another demonstrator, bemoaned, “He has disgraced the people of Tarauni Federal Constituency. Tell him he represents the people, not horses.”

According to reports, some beneficiaries left the grains at the Tarauni local council distribution center.

Supporters of the politician, however, defended him by claiming that he also gave out beans and rice.
