PHOTOS: Phyna’s younger sister, Ruth Otabor laid to rest

On Saturday, September 13, 2025, Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, was buried in Ogun State.

An emotional Phyna was flanked by her former Level 2 roommates, who showed up to support her during the devastating farewell, as captured in a widely shared video from the event.

Ruth passed away following a tragic collision with a Dangote Group vehicle on August 13, 2025, close to Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.

She suffered severe injuries, including having one leg amputated.

Ruth tragically died on August 31, 2025, despite intensive medical attempts, including arrangements to send her overseas for specialized treatment.

Phyna verified the loss in a statement issued by the family’s attorney:

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at approximately 6:30 AM. The family requests privacy as they mourn.”

There was a public outpouring of grief following the accident and Ruth’s death, with cries for justice and increased road safety.

According to a family source, the Dangote Group was notified right after following Ruth’s passing.

In the meantime, the Dangote Group has reaffirmed its dedication to helping the family and maintaining operational safety standards.
