Hadiza Bala Usman, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Policy Coordination, has issued a warning stating that the President will remove ministers who neglect their responsibilities.

Usman stated that Tinubu is ready to fulfil his pledge to improve and simplify life for Nigerians.

At the start of the delivery desk officers of federal ministries’ technical retreat on implementing presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, the presidential adviser delivered the warning.

Usman urged the ministers in attendance at the retreat, namely the delivery officers and directors of planning, to devote themselves entirely to their work.

She said: “We must understand that the president is very serious about his promises and that ministers will be assessed, and ministers will be dropped if they don’t perform.

“You must understand that as ministerial delivery desk officers you are the engine room that will provide that feedback and constantly track ministerial progress and report challenges and bottlenecks to the central coordinating and delivery unit.

“As I was saying at the ministry of aviation recently, we will be assessing FAAN on customer experience at the airports; are the escalators, lifts, and conveyor belts functional?

“What are the consequences of delayed time of departure for airlines? These are things that everybody can feel and see.

“When we are talking about agriculture, we want to see our index of fertilizer use per hectare grow in view of the attendant investment that has been made in fertilizer interventions.”

Usman had promised that all ministers would sign a performance agreement with Tinubu after being appointed.

According to her, the bond will specify the ministers’ responsibilities for 2024.

The bond will be used to monitor each minister’s performance through 2024, according to the presidential adviser.

Usman further mentioned that key performance indicators (KPIs) for the bond will be evaluated on a quarterly basis.
