The notice of impeachment against Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been withdrawn by 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The notice of withdrawal that was read out on the house floor on Wednesday included this information.

The decision, according to the MPs, was made out of respect for President Bola Tinubu, who called a conference for reconciliation between the opposing parties on Monday.

The verdict was read aloud to the 26 lawmakers who are loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike on Wednesday morning at the House of Assembly Complex.

According to Zingtie, President Tinubu mediated a peace agreement between Fubara and Wike, his predecessor, on Monday.

The governor and Wike, who is currently the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, are said to be at odds over positions of power, which is the source of the tension in the state.

“We will not proceed with this impeachment process, due to respect for President Tinubu,” Factional Speaker Hon. Martins Amaewhule said
