The reasons behind the conflict between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike have been revealed by veteran journalist Dele Momodu.

Momodu claimed that control of the Rivers State treasury was the root of the political conflict between Wike and Fubara.

This was revealed by the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday night.

Since the governor took office on May 29, 2023, Fubara and Wike have been at each other’s throats.

The state House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and a few state commissioners who supported both parties had been affected by the fight.

President Bola Tinubu stepped in to resolve the conflict and forced a peace agreement to be signed by all sides.

Despite the peace agreement, each party and their loyalists continued the cold war.

Speaking on the fight, Momodu said: “They are fighting in Rivers because of politics only. They also need the money in Rivers.

“Tinubu has Wike in Rivers. They want him also to get hold of the state to not only give them votes, but a structure of money, structure of having direct access to the treasury Rivers State plays an important role in election in Nigeria.”
