Twelve individuals abducted by Boko Haram from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State have reportedly fled captivity and reached safety.
According to Daily Trust, a source from Pulka disclosed that the victims, comprising 10 men and two women, managed to escape during a period of military operations that compelled the insurgents to abandon some of those held captive.
“One of the victims told us that there were military operations in the area which forced the insurgents to abandon some of them and escape with the majority of the captives,” he said.
A statement issued by the Borno South Youth Alliance also confirmed the development, stating that the escape occurred on Wednesday.
“They are now safe in a nearby town,” the statement said.
The escapees were identified as Aisha Audu, 20, Hajara Audu, 18 months, Aisha Idrisa, 17, Hafsat Idrisa four months, Aisha Abubakar Bama, 22, Maryam Umar, 11 months, Zainabu Umar Mbasuwa, 22, Salma Abubakar, 2 months, Musa Umar, seven, Suleiman Umar, nine, Aisha Abubakar, 17 and Aisha Musa, 10.
ZINGTIE recalls that 416 victims were reportedly abducted during the March 4, 2026 attack on the Ngoshe community.
The group had earlier released a video issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to both the Federal Government and Borno State authorities to meet its demands or risk the killing of the 416 captives.
