President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said state governors should be held accountable for the rising cases of kidnapping across Nigeria.
Bwala stated that governors should bear responsibility for every kidnapping incident that occurs within their respective states.
Speaking during an interview on the Morayo Show, Bwala said the persistent lack of security at the local level reflects shortcomings in governance and raises concerns about how funds meant for community development and public safety are being managed.
He said: “Every time someone is kidnapped or taken against their will in any part of Nigeria, the governor of that state should be held responsible. And I will say, and I want it to be the memorable word.
“Every local government area, all the kidnappings have happened in local government areas.”
Bwala also asked how the money given for the Safe School Initiative was used, saying “the program was meant to make schools safer.
“There was a program called the Safe School Initiative that began, and money was given to states to build fences around schools, set up early science warnings, and carry out all those safety checks.”
He further queried: “Ask your governor where that money was spent.”
