Online reactions have been triggered by the arrest of Ramatoulie Baldeh, a 19-year-old girl, for setting fire to her boyfriend’s family home in Kerr Sering, Gambia.

The incident happened on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, after she and her lover got into a furious argument. According to Gambia media, Ramatoulie burned a plastic bag and tossed it upon the bed before opening a gas cylinder.

All possessions were destroyed as the fire swiftly spread across the entire house. Although no injuries were reported, the f!re caused extensive damage.

At the time of the incident, there were 10 tenants in the compound. The fire also extended to their apartments, leaving them with nothing.

One of the affected tenants told reporters, “We are now homeless, with all our belongings destroyed. We urgently need help.”

While CID investigators continue their investigation, the suspect is being held at the Senegambia Police Station.
