A Nigerian bride has won hearts by posting a video of herself walking down the aisle with her brother acting as her “man of honour,” in a touching departure from custom.

The bride decided to take on the position of “maid of honour,” which is typically filled by a female friend or relative.

In addition to helping the bride with wedding preparations, the maid of honour usually acts as her confidante and supporter on the big day.

By designating her brother as her “man of honor,” the bride demonstrated her close relationship and unique connection to him.

As the bride walked elegantly down the aisle, arm in arm with her brother, who stood by her side in a role usually assigned for a female counterpart—adjusting and handling her wedding gown and helping her up the stairs—the video, which has now gone viral, captured the poignant moment.

The bride’s choice to defy custom and pay tribute to her brother in this way has spurred discussions about how weddings are evolving and how important it is for people to make their own decisions and form personal bonds at such happy occasions.
