VIDEO: “Objection k!ll your mother, you thief!” – Dramatic Nigerian courtroom outburst goes viral on social media

After a video showed a furious outburst during proceedings, with one of the parties yelling, “Objection kill your mother, objection kill your grandmother, you thief!” before suddenly apologising, saying, “Sorry, my Lord.” in a dramatic scene from a Nigerian courtroom went viral on social media.

User CHUKS (@ChuksEricE) posted the now-widely-shared video on X (previously Twitter) with the description, “He say objection keee em mama??” It’s no little matter what’s going on in court, huh?

As the tension increased, the video shows a young lawyer, whose name The Nigeria Lawyer could not identify, sitting there seeming shocked and reacting incredulously to the argument. He seems to mutter or say, “Nor be small happen for court today.” Another person, whose name or legal status is unknown, was also overheard threatening, “I will throw you out.”

According to The Nigeria Lawyer, the outburst happened during a court hearing, albeit the precise reason has not yet been confirmed. However, it was not possible to independently corroborate the exact court where the incident occurred at the time this report was filed.

Since then, the video has sparked a lot of internet discussion. Some have called for a reassessment of legal practice ethics and courtroom decorum, while others have voiced alarm over the seeming breakdown of civility during court proceedings.

Regarding the occurrence, neither the Nigerian Bar Association nor legal professionals have yet to issue an official statement.
