A video allegedly showing armed bandits displaying huge amounts of cash believed to have been obtained from ransom payments has surfaced online, raising fresh concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
The footage was shared on Saturday by Bakatsine, a journalist widely known for reporting on insecurity and conflict in Nigeria’s North-West region.
Posting the clip on his X account, he wrote: “This video shows bandits flaunting money obtained through ransom payments. May Allah bring an end to this tragedy and grant Nigeria lasting peace.”
ZINGTIE reports that kidnapping for ransom has emerged as one of the country’s most serious security challenges, particularly across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region.
Armed groups operating in these areas have repeatedly attacked communities, travellers, farmers and educational institutions, often demanding large sums of money for the release of victims.
Despite ongoing military offensives and security operations targeting criminal groups, incidents of abduction and violent attacks continue to be recorded in several states across the country.
The latest footage has further intensified concerns about the financial strength of criminal networks and the growing impact of kidnapping activities on national security.
