Tragedy struck in Zamfara State’s Shinkafi Local Government Area, where a spate of bandit attacks has left at least three people dead and 24 others taken hostage.
The attacks, which occurred in Shinkafi town and surrounding villages, including Jangeru, Shanawa, and Birnin Yero, have sent shockwaves through the community.
In one harrowing incident in Jangeru, a woman who was abducted by the bandits was later abandoned in the bush, several kilometers from her home.
The attacks, which took place on Thursday, are believed to have been carried out by bandits affiliated with the notorious leader Bello Turji.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits brutally struck the abducted woman on the head when she couldn’t keep up with their pace, leaving her unconscious.
The bandits eventually abandoned her in the wilderness, where she regained consciousness around 3 am and miraculously made her way back to her village by morning.
A resident, who spoke to ZINGTIE, recounted the horrific details of the attack, “After abducting the woman, the bandits realized she could not endure trekking to their destination, hence they hit her head with a stick and she fainted. They abandoned her in the bush. The woman recovered around 3am and returned to the village in the morning. We were terrified by the attack because the terrorists came with guns and fired several shots indiscriminately.”
