Sani Shinkafi, an APC chieftain in Zamfara State, has pledged to stay in the party and keep pushing for internal democracy and justice.

In a news conference held at his Gusau home, Shinkafi made this commitment, dispelling rumors of defections sparked by his recent attendance at a project commissioning event organized by PDP Governor Dauda Lawal.

The APC chairman denied rumors that he had defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by stating that his presence was nonpartisan and done for the benefit of the state.

“I am a member of the APC and remain a committed card-carrying member,” Shinkafi declared. “Nobody can change my conviction or principles. I am not leaving the party.”

The elder statesman clarified his attendance at the PDP-led state government event by pointing out that, regardless of party allegiance, it is his responsibility as a well-known Zamfara native to accept invitations that advance development.

“Some were surprised to see me at the commissioning of projects by a governor from a different political party. But I ask why should I decline an invitation from the governor of my state, who is working to serve a population of nearly six million people? That would be a great disservice,” he said.

Along with other prominent APC leaders, like as former Governor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi and former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Abubakar Chika Bunu, Shinkafi said he honored the occasion.

He claimed that the fact that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was present, characterizing him as an elder statesman, further emphasized the event’s non-political character.

Party divisions shouldn’t stand in the way of initiatives to advance harmony, development, and peace in Zamfara State, the APC chairman said.

“We must separate politics from governance. Zamfara is our only home, and we must all work together regardless of political party to uplift our people from poverty and insecurity,” he said.
