Chief Great Ogboru’s return to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State has further divided the party.

A group branded as Elders and Leaders of Ethiope East Local Government Area, where Ogboru hails from, had previously rejected his return to the party.

They cited inconsistencies and his overbearing nature as factors for refusing his readmission.

However, the state branch of APC has firmly denied the charges made by the Elders and Leaders.

It rejected the arguments against his re-entry as being motivated by partisan and personal interests and vowed to oppose any efforts to sabotage the party’s unity and advancement.

When reached, Valentine Onojeghuo, the State Publicity Secretary, APC, Delta State rejected the claims as unfounded and an effort to sow needless division among its members.

He said that the APC constitution does not forbid someone from joining the party again, even if they have already pursued political goals on other platforms.

The party emphasized that Ogboru’s readmission is consistent with the democratic ideals that underpin the party and reiterated that he has the constitutional right to rejoin the APC.

The party insisted that it has an open-door policy and welcomes anyone who shares its progressive views and is dedicated to improving Delta State and Nigeria.

“No individual or faction has the authority to dictate who can or cannot be a member of the party,” the party said in response to the reported resistance from the Ethiopia East Elders’ organization.

“It is laughable that a group of individuals without constitutional authority would arrogate to themselves the power to decide membership terms. That privilege remains exclusively with the National Working Committee of the party.

“Ogboru is a household name and a major political force in Delta State. His return will strengthen the APC’s structure and prospects ahead of future political engagements,” he said.

Assuring both new and existing members of equal opportunities to engage in party events without discrimination, the party further emphasized the APC’s continued expansion in Delta State, pointing to a notable number of defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.

Additionally, it issued a warning that any attempt to obstruct Ogboru’s re-entry would be deemed egregious misbehavior and would result in harsh disciplinary action.

By calling on party members and stakeholders to put aside divisive language and concentrate on creating a strong platform for good governance in Delta State, the APC further underlined its commitment to welcoming Ogboru and his supporters back into the party on March 9, 2025, as scheduled.

The party reiterates its commitment to inclusivity and unity within its ranks by inviting all well-meaning stakeholders to take part in the re-entry celebration.
