A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted and sentenced Benedicta Usen, also known as Mrs Carol Omomoh, to five years in prison without the option of a fine for trafficking a woman for prostitution.

While delivering the judgement, Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that the prosecution has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt for each and every claim in the eight-count change.

As a result, Justice Ekwo sentenced Omomoh to two years and six months in jail for offences one, three, five, and seven, without the option of a fine.

The judge additionally sentenced her to five years in prison on counts two, four, six, and eight, without the option of a fine.

He ordered that all jail terms run concurrently, beginning February 3.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police said in an eight-count revised charge that the defendant Omomoh planned to conduct the offence by recruiting and transporting Miss Cynthia Loveth Ese Omoieke to Italy via the UK through fraud.

The prosecutor stated that the offence is punishable under Section 27 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration, or TPPEA, Act of 2015.
