More than 25 persons were severely burned in a fire outbreak that occurred at the Talata Mafara Central Market in Zamfara State on Tuesday afternoon. Many of these individuals are presently undergoing treatment at the Talata Mafara General Hospital.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who posted about the incident on his official X handle on Wednesday, said that the fire began at 2:30 p.m. after an explosion and gunshot caused panic.

“We heard a loud bang, and then fire spread rapidly across the market. People ran in different directions, but many were caught in the flames,” a trader who witnessed the incident recounted.

According to the Zamfara Police Command, which confirmed the occurrence, over 25 persons were burned and taken right away to the hospital for treatment.

Despite reports that a Dane pistol was found at the scene, no one has been taken into custody.

“The perpetrator may be among the casualties. The investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion and apprehend those responsible,” the police added.
