It will be the year 2024 in a few hours.
We had a number of athletic events all year long in 2023.
These included the Women’s World Cup, AFC Asian Cup, Super Bowl, Club World Cup, and so on.
The next 365 days will bring more delights. Zingtie enumerates five such instances.
- AFCON 2023: The Africa Cup of Nations will be the first significant competition of 2024. It begins in Cote d’Ivoire on January 13 and ends on February 11 in the final. The Super Eagles will be attempting to win a fourth championship.
- Champions League Final: The Champions League trophy is the most coveted championship in European football, no question about it. Additionally, the Wimbledon in the United Kingdom will host the final on June 1. Manchester City, the reigning Premier League winners, are among the favourites to keep the trophy at home. It’s interesting to see that bookies consider Arsenal, another English team, to be a possibility.
- 48th Copa America/2024 Euros: South America and Europe will hold their continental championships in June and July, nearly simultaneously. The Copa America will take place from June 14 until July 13. June 14 will also mark the start of the Euros, while July 14 will mark the final. Fans worldwide can expect a month full of football celebrations.
- Summer Olympics 2024: Paris will host the Summer Olympics in 2024. The dates of the tournament are July 26–August 11. Paris has already hosted the Olympics twice, in 1900 and 1924. It will also become the second city, after London, to hold the Summer Olympics three times.
- 2024 Ballon d’Or: One thing is certain: in 2024, a new Ballon d’Or winner will be announced. This time, it won’t be Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Since Kaka in 2007, just two players have taken home the trophy: Luka Modric (2018) and Karim Benzema (2022). Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland, or Kylian Mbappe might be the winner next year.
