Public affairs analyst, Akin Malaolu, has alleged that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is quietly working in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Malaolu made the claim in a statement issued on Sunday, arguing that Obasanjo’s perceived backing of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso is merely a diversionary tactic.
According to him, the former Nigerian leader is pursuing an agenda aimed at weakening opposition political parties across the country.
“By this letter, Obasanjo has only confirmed the speculations that he is working for his kinsman, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to actualise his second-term ambition.
“The so-called Obasanjo’s support for Obi and Kwankwaso is a mere smokescreen aimed at masking his covert support for the Tinubu-led APC administration.”
The remarks come after Obasanjo accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of allegedly giving former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, money to initiate impeachment proceedings against him during his presidency.
However, Atiku rejected the allegation, dismissing Obasanjo’s claims in his response.
