Under the auspices of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), political parties and civic groups seeking a grand coalition ahead of Nigeria’s general elections in 2027 convened in Kano on Tuesday for a significant strategy meeting.
The event, which ZINGTIE saw, was hosted by former Nigerian ambassador Bala Sani at the Malam Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies in Mambayya House, Gwammaja.
It attracted representatives from Kano State’s informal sector organizations as well as opposition parties like as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Redemptions Party (PRP), and Action People’s Party, (APP), New Nigeria Movement (NMN), youth organizations.
In order to defeat the incumbent APC in 2027, opposition groups were advised to embrace unity and strategic preparation by Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, the ADC’s 2023 candidate for governor of Kano and leader of the state’s council of clerics.

In order to defeat the incumbent APC in 2027, opposition groups were advised to embrace unity and strategic preparation by Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, the ADC’s 2023 candidate for governor of Kano and leader of the state’s council of clerics.
He attacked the APC government for stifling dissenting opinions and appropriating the court and National Assembly, which ought to serve as checks and balances.
“When those who should hold government accountable start singing its praises, democracy is in danger,” he warned.
Musa Shuaibu Ungogo, the ADC Chairman in Kano, stressed in his speech the significance of restoring Nigerians’ faith in the democratic system, saying, “there is no gainsaying the fact that Nigerians have lost faith in our democratic system, they have lost confidence in political elites’s ability to steer this nation towards meaningful growth, sustainable development and sustained leadership in Africa. Today we must reignite that hope, we must demonstrate that politics can still be a force for good, a tool for national redemption, and a vehicle for the aspiration of the common man,” he lamented.
Within every opposition alliance, discipline, sacrifice, and compromise are essential, according to renowned political analyst Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge. “Victory is impossible without unity. The APC won in 2015 because all their contenders shelved personal ambitions and rallied behind Muhammadu Buhari,” he noted.
Internal democracy must not be jeopardized, Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dukawa added.
“When candidates are imposed, it spells doom for the party. Injustice kills political parties,” he stated.
Representatives of the parties reiterated their dedication to the alliance. Concerns regarding trust were raised by Sani Lawan Es, the Kano State Secretary for the APP: “Our fear is betrayal—being used and dumped. But if everyone plays fair, we can succeed.”
A member of the LP’s national presidential campaign committee, Abba Bukar Dambatta, urged the coalition to maintain its fortitude: “To those who think this is impossible— don’t lose hope. We’ve endured hardship for 10 years; we’ve been through the fire. Everyone feels the pain now.”
