Abia State Governor Alex Otti has said presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, are free to campaign across the state.

Otti made the disclosure during an interview with Arise Television aired on Friday.

Speaking about his relationship with Obi, the governor said: “Absolutely, anybody that wants to campaign in my state is allowed. Peter Obi and I are not fighting, there is nobody that I’m fighting so if he wants to campaign in my state he would be allowed.

“Any other person – even Atiku – if he wants to campaign he would be allowed because that is what democracy is all about.”

The governor’s comments come shortly after Obi was reportedly prevented from entering Makurdi, the Benue State capital, where he was expected to meet with NDC stakeholders.

The former Anambra State governor was also scheduled to visit Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Benue State.
