Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has volunteered to help with human rights attorney Dele Farotimi’s bail requirements.
ZINGTIE recalls that in a defamation case involving Afe Babalola, an Ekiti Magistrate Court granted Farotimi bail on Friday.
A N30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must be a home owner), giving up his passport, and refusing to give media interviews are all requirements of the bail terms.
Tanko Yunusa, a former spokeswoman for Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, made the announcement of Mr. Obi’s decision in a statement posted on his X account on Friday.
As a supporter of the rule of law, Obi, according to Yunusa, wanted the matter settled in a way that honours the judicial system and is advantageous to all parties.
“I consulted His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement. As a respecter of rule of law, due process, and order, he offered to take Dele Farotimi on the bail conditions,” Yunusa stated.
He also conveyed Obi’s appreciation to everyone concerned in the situation.
“His concern is that the situation be resolved in the best interest of all parties and our legal system.
“He extended his sincere appreciation to all concerned,” Yunusa added.
