Members of a child trafficking syndicate engaged in the unlawful sale of children have been detained by Ondo State Police Command agents, according to Leadership News. Three suspects have been taken into custody: Mrs. Sabira Izuorah, 68, Abosede Olanipekun, 23, and Lukman Isiaka, 43.

14 small children that had been stolen from different locations in Akure, Ondo State, and Ilesa, Osun State, were discovered in the perpetrators’ custody, according to police reports.

The children were retrieved from Mrs. Izuorah and varied in age from three weeks to two months. The kidnapped children were allegedly brought to an orphanage she operated in Ihiala, Anambra State, for subsequent trafficking. Serious worries over Nigeria’s illicit cross-state child trafficking have been raised by this discovery.

The suspects told the police that Izuorah was the main buyer of the ₦500,000 apiece that was sold for the kidnapped children. According to reports, Izuorah, a former director in Anambra State’s Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, gave Lukman Isiaka ₦500,000 for every child. After that, she sold the kids to other buyers for at least ₦1 million.

Having been involved in child theft since 2023, Isiaka acknowledged his involvement in the syndicate. He confessed to delivering a total of 11 children to Izuorah during this period. Although Olanipekun, another group member, has not elaborated on her involvement, she is still being held by the police for more interrogation.

The scope of the trafficking network, which operates across several states, has been made public by the police operation. Authorities are currently investigating more possible syndicate members and trying to identify the buyers who were involved in the unlawful transactions.

Lukman stated, “I have been stealing children since 2023. I have given a total of 11 children to Izuorah.”
