Nollywood actress Damipe Adekoya says, “My pastor told ushers to send me down from the altar because of my skirt while I was singing.”
In her open discussion of her very religious upbringing, Nollywood actress Damipe Adekoya remembered a time when she was publicly removed from the altar while singing in church.
Debbie Shokoya, a fellow actor, was interviewed on her official YouTube channel.
Adekoya disclosed that she was up in a very devout family that strictly adhered to Christian principles. Her mother was a pastor, her father was a reverend, and even her older brother followed in their footsteps. She spent the majority of her early years in the church as a preacher’s child.
Adekoya recounted one of her favorite moments, in which she was taken out of the altar in public during a church ceremony.
She clarified that she had worn a long bodycon skirt to church that day. Her pastor saw her attire when she was singing on the altar and told the ushers to send her down right away.
In her words; “I came from a very religious family. I grew up as a preacher’s kid. My father is a Reverend, my mother is a pastor, and even my elder brother is also a pastor. I grew up in the church until I got married.“
“My parents are very religious Christians, and I lived in the church all through my early years. I remember a day after finishing university when I went to church wearing a long bodycon skirt. As I was singing, my pastor, who was my dad at the time, instructed the ushers to send me down from the altar because of the type of skirt I was wearing. Despite that, they still called a meeting to discuss me. This shows how serious and religious the family I come from is.”
